How to Choose Suitable Glasses for Children

Jun 23, 2024

With the increased use of electronic devices in modern life, more and more children are facing vision problems. Once it is confirmed that your child needs eyeglasses, choosing the right ones is especially important. This not only affects their visual health but also has a direct bearing on their learning and quality of life. What should we pay attention to when choosing glasses for children and wearing them in daily life?

1、Accurate optometry

Inaccurate optometry can deepen the degree of myopia or hyperopia, and may also cause strabismus, which is very harmful to vision. Therefore, optometry should choose qualified organizations. If you are a teenager, highly nearsighted person, refractive error, etc., it is best to go to the hospital for optometry.

2、Comfort of wearing glasses

Children's skin is more sensitive than adults, so the material and design of eyeglasses must be comfortable and non-irritating. Choose soft materials and rounded edges to minimize possible friction and discomfort. In addition, lightweight materials can lighten the burden of the glasses, making them more pleasurable for your child to wear.

3、Choose high-quality lenses

The good or bad of the lens affects the quality of the glasses. At present, there are mainly resin lenses, PC lenses, and ordinary optical glass lenses in the market. Resin and PC lenses are lighter in texture and not easy to break, especially PC lenses are more suitable for groups who love sports; while glass lenses are cheaper and more resistant to scratches, but the effect of controlling the number of degrees is not too good. Parents can choose their own children's lenses according to their own in addition, in the same degree of case, the higher the refractive index of the lens, the thinner the lens, so those who have a higher degree of friends try to choose a higher refractive index lenses, wear up is also easier.

4、Choice of frames

Children are in a period of growth and development, the size of their face and head will keep changing, and the eyeglass frames need to be changed regularly. Therefore, when choosing eyeglass frames for children, you should consider frames with good elasticity, high strength, good safety, and stable structure. Parents can also consider adding non-slip covers to their children's temples to ensure that they can wear their eyeglasses steadily when they are playing sports.

5、Consider Style and Appearance

Glasses should not only correct vision but also fit your child’s style and personality. Let them choose frames in colors or patterns they like. Feeling good about how they look in their glasses can boost their confidence and encourage them to wear them consistently.

6、Regular review

When a child is nearsighted, it is often necessary to regularly replace the child's eyeglasses every once in a while as the child's myopia changes, the face grows, the lenses wear out, and the frames become deformed and damaged.

Sometimes the child may not be able to see clearly because of vision changes, but not necessarily take the initiative to talk to parents, but to take their squinting to adapt, if the glasses with the actual degree does not match the long term vision is not clear, the retina will not receive a clear image of the stimulus, myopia may grow more quickly. So as a parent, regardless of whether your child has feedback or not, you should bring your child to check their eyesight regularly, and if the glasses are worn out or deformed, you should replace them immediately!
